Music Composer & Orchestrator

Dan Lazarescou

I have always loved music and science. Having difficulties in choosing, I did both.

After receiving my first academic degree (MS) in electrical engineering, I spent over 20 years working in avionics, robotics, automation systems, and the airline industry, serving in diverse roles ranging from computer engineer to vice president of flight operations systems.

In 2002, favorable circumstances and my family encouraged me to return to school and resume music training. I studied music composition at Richland College with Dr. Jerry Wallace and Southern Methodist University (SMU) with professors Kevin Hanlon, Robert Frank, and Martin Sweidel, completing the program with honors and the degree of master of music composition.

My music includes pieces for large symphonic orchestra, wind ensemble, concerti, mixed chamber ensemble, string quartet, woodwind trio, piano, clarinet, saxophone, small jazz combo, voice, and film music.

Some of the pieces have been recognized with awards at composition competitions and festivals, including Winner 2010 SCI/ASCAP competition region VI and USA finalist, Gold Medal for Excellence of Original Music in a Feature Film 2011 and 2012 Park City Film Music Festival, and other festival and competition selections and awards.

I am an elected member of the honorific Society of PI Kappa Lambda. I am also a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), of the Society of Composers, Inc., and the American Composers Forum.
